Professor Q. Charles Su of the Physics Department has been appointed as a Distinguished Professor at Illinois State University. This accolade honors faculty who have gained national recognition for scholarly research or leadership.

Those who receive the distinction are invited to give a public lecture or presentation, receive $1,000 and keep the title throughout their Illinois State career.

Su began in the Department of Physics in 1994 and became a full professor in 2002. His research has focused on the numerical approach to study how particles interact with intense laser fields. In addition, he has published over 150 research articles during his career.

The honor will be awarded at the Founders Day Convocation, which is set to take place 2 p.m. Feb. 18.
