Physical and Personal Safety in Class, Lab & Storeroom

Performance Objectives:

• The teacher candidate will list the seven major areas of safety concerns in the physics lab, classroom, and storeroom: electrical, lasers and light, pressurized and vacuum systems, ionizing radiation, fires, toxic materials, and mechanical.
• The teacher candidate will list the essential elements of dealing effectively with the question of safety in a class, lab, or storeroom setting including:
  • pre-lab safety briefing
  • in-lab safety concerns
  • demonstration hazards
  • risk analysis
• The teacher candidate will note the value and importance of a student safety contract.
• The teacher candidate will note the value and importance of a safety inspection checklist.
• The teacher candidate will explain the five steps associated with protecting children from sexual misconduct:
  1. Know the warning signs.
  2. Control access
  3. Monitor all programs
  4. Be aware
  5. Communicate your concerns
