Comprehensive Histories of Physics

Study Web: History of Physics A hundred or more links to historical figures and topics within the history of physics, with much information about modern physics. All of the hyperlinked sites have been produced by Janice Karin. This a premiere physics history web site. Most articles are written for students in grades 9-12, through a few deal with more complex issues more appropriate to college-level readers.

History of Physics from Catholic Encyclopedia A comprehensive yet concise review of the history of classical physics under twenty-nine topic headings from the dawn of physics up through the theories of heat. Written by Pierre Duhem.

History of Physics and Science Comprehensive history of physics, mathematics & science in general ... by PhysLINK.com

Chronologies of Physics

Physics Chronology From the Copernican Revolution to superstrings, a chronology of some of the greatest discoveries of natural philosophy. Compiled by Phil Gibbs.

A Century of Physics Maintained by the American Physical Society, this interactive timeline takes a close look at the last hundred years in physics. Related to the second floor physics history display found outside Moulton Hall room 208.

Topics within the History of Physics

Sketches of a History of Classical Electromagnetism A host of very short vignettes in the history of physics dealing primarily with optics, magnetism, electricity, and electromagnetism. However, much more comprehensive than title suggests. Comes with many pictures. Regularly updated.

A Timeline of Electricity and Magnetism As the author says, "Mostly from E. T. Whittaker's 'A History of the Theories of Aether and Electricity'" going from 900 B.C. to 1905 A.D.

Statistical Mechanics and Thermodynamics Dates of major theoretical and experimental advances, inventions etc, related to theories of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. Includes notes on phlogiston, caloric and kinetic theories of heat and motion.

A Brief History of Electricity Details time from electricity's discovery in 1831 through its many uses in the present day. Includes links about the work of Faraday, Ampere, Volta, Ohm, Franklin, Galvani, Oersted, and others.

Resource Centers for the History of Physics

Center for History of Physics Maintained by the American Institute of Physics. Page contains exhibits and online source materials for the history of physics. Exhibits include information about Madame Curie, Albert Einstein, Discovery of the Electron, Heisenberg and Uncertainty, The Invention of the Transistor, Sakharov-Weapons and Human Rights, and much more.
