A2: Accessibility for Physical Disabilities
Motor Disabilities and MS Word
A. INTRODUCTION

for individuals with motor disabilities. Among them are the following:
- Macros
- Adapted Switches
- Voice Command Software
- On-screen Keyboard
- Key Guard
- Adapted Keyboard
- Dictation Software
- Sticky Keys
Microsoft Word contains features that make it easier for people
who have limited dexterity and/or difficulty reading small print.
B. PROCEDURE
Using the help function that accompanies Microsoft Word, learn
how to do the following using a Word document:
- Use shortcuts to insert frequently used text and graphics
- Use AutoComplete and other Word automatic features
- Create a custom toolbar
- Make toolbar buttons larger
- Group related buttons and menus on a toolbar
- Add a button to a toolbar
- Add a command or other item to a menu
- Assign a shortcut key to a command or other item
- Work with Word using shortcut keys
- Print a list of shortcut keys
- Change the magnification of a document
- Use shortcuts to insert frequently used text and graphics
- Use the AutoComplete feature to insert entire items -- such
as today's date, the days of the week or month, your name, or
AutoText entries -- when you type a few identifying characters
- Create a toolbar that contains only the buttons and menus
you use most often. You can also make the toolbar buttons larger
and group the related ones together
- Create a toolbar button or a menu command or assign a shortcut
key that you can use to quickly gain access to frequently used
commands, styles, AutoText entries, and fonts. For example, you
can create a shortcut key that applies a frequently used paragraph
style or character style
- View and print lists of all the shortcut keys available
Search "accessibility" in the "Help : Contents
and Index : Index" pull down menu for details about each
of these features. Your course instructor has printed out a complete
set of these command guidelines. You may borrow a hard copy from
him.
C. EVALUATION
During a demonstration interview with the course instructor,
show that you can perform any of the above actions upon request.
