A5: ReadAudio/Vivoplayer/Shockwave

A. INTRODUCTION

RealAudio is a free Internet application that allows the listener to hear remote broadcasts realtime. For instance, an Ohio State Buckeyes fan can listen to a football game broadcast from Columbus even though the game is not accessible through normal means (radio or TV) locally. In this activity you will download a copy of Read Audio from the Internet, decompress and install it on your computer, and then listen to programs from far away.

B. PROCEDURE

Using Netscape Navigator or some other suitable web browser, use a search engine to find, download, and decompress a copy of RealAudio. Using information provided with the downloaded and decompressed files, set up your RealAudio application to provide you daily news briefings, music, stock market quotes, and other similar things. Listen to these reports, and familiarize yourself with the general working of the RealAudio program.

C. EVALUATION

There are no written components to the evaluation associated with this project. You will, however, be required to take part in a demonstration interview with the course instructor. The course instructor will ask to be shown how to use the RealAudio application.
