Video Help Project

Dr. David Marx from the ISU Physics Department has recently developed an exciting pedagogical tool to aid students in gaining an important skill in solving the more difficult problems. The problems chosen for inclusion are those that require two or more steps to complete. Students often have trouble starting such problems, so these videos give a very consistent approach for students to follow that should lead to successful problem solving most of the time. It may be important to know that these videos will only be available to students that have WileyPlus - the online version of the text with lots of additional resources for students and instructors.

Procedure:

• Visit the Video Help web site consisting of all videos completed to date.
• Watch not less than 10 videos; chose any 10 that are of interest to you.
• Reflect upon the following questions at the end of watching 10 videos.
• Write a report addressing each of the following questions. Be certain to include the question and question number in your written report. Please not that your reports will be shared with Dr. Marx with all identifying information removed.
  
  1.  What is the likelihood that students will use this resource to help them work through problems and learn problem solving?  Explain your reasoning.
  
  2.  Do the videos give too much, too little, or just the right amount of information?  Explain.
  
  3.  What would you like to see added to these videos?
  
  4.  What, if anything, would you like to see removed from these videos?

5. What steps or procedures are evident in the problem-solving process demonstrated?

6.  Imagine that you are the instructor. Would you be more likely to assign two-step problems with Video Help available or less likely?  Explain your reasoning.
